As you may know, we have been hoping that Gabriel would be accepted into the Chinese Immersion Program at our Elementary School.
They just received a grant for it and we became super excited when we learned it would start with his group of Kindergarten children.
Starting in First Grade and Continuing through High School!
We were sure to get all the information, turn in his application, and stay up on any news!
It didn't take long for nearly 150 other families to become equally as excited!
They were only accepting 50 children....so our chances were slim.
This weekend, we received "the letter."
He was accepted!
Whoopee!
I think we all had a smile on our face after reading the letter!
I thought it would be fun to have a Family Night on China.
We had a "taster's" dinner.
Eating chocolate buns.
Pork bun-buns.
Sticky rice.
Tea (herbal).
And eating with chopsticks...of course.

We read a Children's Picture Book: D is for Dancing Dragon!
(Very insightful.)

Then, we watched an educational film on Asia.
I must say....my geography skills are quite poor!
Did you know that the population of China is 2/3 of the world's population?
After which, we tried some little candy treats.
Mochi and Golden Rabbit candies.
Both really good!

Then we had a little lesson on how to write our names in Mandarin.

And to top it all off..origami boats!

A great lead to "tubby times!"
We are all looking forward to this adventure in langauge and culture!
Gabriel is super excited!
The more we are learning, the more we look forward to this experience as a family!
