Points

All my education in childhood development and marriage and family therapy has been tested to its limits over the years!
And....now I am just plain old tired.
Over the years, we have made up different "point" and reward systems at our house.
But non has worked quite as good as this!

I bought each child a fun cup and wrote their name accross the top.
Then, I purchased a big bag of glittery pom-poms.
Each pom-pom is worth 1 point.

The kids have different tasks they need to do to earn a point.
For example: In the morning,
Get dressed
Make their bed
Eat breakfast
Brush their teeth.
To earn one point for the morning.

Other tasks are somewhat ambiguous.
Like...feeding the dog.
Helping with garbage.
Putting laundry away.
Sweeping the porch.
Whatever I need help with.

Then, this is the fun part!
Every other Saturday, I open my "Store!"
I purchase things that my children really want.
Price them.
Sell them.
The markup seems high if you think of a point as a $1.
So I have lowered my standards, because I don't think taking out the garbage is $1 worth of work...but may doing it 3 times is!

We have been doing this for about three months!
I must say, we have ALL enjoyed it!

I'm happy because my children are listening to me again!
They're happy because they are being rewarded!

That is such a great idea! Such a tangible way for the kids to see real progress in their pom-pom cup. And I love that their "job list" is flexible so you can have them do what needs to be done at the moment.

Genius.

Plus I love how your music always matches your posts.

You are such a nice mom! I just redid our chore chart and the kids asked, "Do we get anything for doing this?" My reply? Nope. Not a dang thing. I'm just sweet like that. My only point was that I didn't want to have to ask fifty two kids fifty two times if they had actually brushed their teeth. Your way may work better.
