A "First" for......

.....everyone!
Yes, It's true.  School has started.
(Did I mention how difficult year-round school is?)

The big kids started last week!
 Lauren is in 6th grade!
Very fashion-forward this year.
Thinks about hair, clothes, and shoes!!!
 Tadje in 4th grade!
So thrilled to see his friends again!
Gabe is now in 2nd grade!
Also, starting his second year in the Mandarine Immersion.
We have yet to hear him speak Mandrine at home!
(Except when he's teaching Tadje, in their room. When they should be asleep.)
Kindergarten readiness has been on our minds!
Ava has been talking about it for a FULL year!
She was so excited, until she went for her 5 year check-up!
As dipicted in this drawing, you can see it was a tramatic event.
"This is a human, who is 5.  She just had her kindergarten shots."
(The eyelashes in the picture, are actually tears.)

Now, this is where I get the "Mother of the Year!"  award.
I thought school started EXACTLY a week later than the big kids, for kindergarten.
I'm a very busy lady!  I can't be bothered with details.
I read all the sheets in the information packet.
I wrote down all the important dates.
Except one.......

So here is Ava on our "first" day of school.
We went to bed early,
We ate Mickey Mouse pancakes with whipped cream.
We got our special outfit on.
(Mind you...Ava DOES NOT wear dresses.
But this is what she chose.
Notice the Vans on her feet?)
We went and got a backpack in the morning.
We ate "out" for lunch.
It was a fabulous day, I tell you!

We pull up in front of the school and Kindergarten playground.
Not a mother or child in sight!

Yes, my friends, I got the wrong "first" day.
It was NOT Monday, it was Wednesday!
Today....is her OFFICIAL first day!

When I apologized, profusely, for my mistake.
Ava smiled and said, "It's OK Mommy.  I wanted a little more time with you anyways."
(Heart melting)

And that is what the baby of the family should say.....right?
